Feature Request

Gimbal adjustments

Status:pending

Hi, I have a few suggestions for changing default rotate orders on several controls. Obviously anyone can adjust the rotate orders after rigging, but it seems oft-neglected whenever I download free rigs. I'll probably be adjusting these orders each time I use RapidRig so I thought I'd share: ROOTC is currently XYZ, but ZXY seems more effective (much more likely to turn hips 90 or 180 on Y then on Z or X). MainHipC is XYZ, but I prefer XZY (if it gimbals we lose X, which is least important). HeadC is XYZ but I prefer ZXY (head turn, head pitch, head tilt, in order of priority -- this allows you to turn the head on Y and always be able to add arcs to the motion using one channel, X). SpineTopIKC is XYZ but I prefer XZY. Feel free to ask questions if you have any. Once I do some more animation tests, I may come back and revise my suggestions. cheers, jim

Hey Jim, I have only changed a couple of the rotate orders, so that's a good suggestion. If you are OK with changing them for your purposes for the time being, hopefully some more people will chime in with what they like, and I can evaluate it further. Thanks again! Dustin

Haven't checked out the new update yet -- I'm bogged down with a few projects at the moment -- but because I have some experience animating with the rig now, when I go back and re-rig I'll feel more confident suggesting ideal rotation orders. For now, probably for my own purposes more than anything, I thought I'd just post this link as well as the suggested orders from TD Matt: https://td-matt.blogspot.com/2010/11/rotation-orders.html for Y-down: COG: zxy Hip: zxy leg joints: yzx shoulder/clav: yxz upper arm: zyx lower arm: zyx wrist: yzx spine base: zxy mid spine: yzx chest: zxy neck: yxz head: yxz for X-down: COG: zxy Hip: zxy leg joints: xzy shoulder/clav: xyz upper arm: zxy lower arm: zxy wrist: xyz spine base: zxy mid spine: xzy chest: zxy neck: yxz head: yxz
