icQRbuildSpine.mel line 32: No object matches name

When I click Finish Rig, I get this error and can not continue:

// Error: file: C:/Users/User/Documents/maya/2016/scripts/quadrupedRigger/icQRbuildSpine.mel line 32: No object matches name

I checked line 32 in that script, and is states:

 string $rootJoint = `rename $root ("root_jnt" + $charName)`;

I know noting about mel, so I'm not sure how to fix it myself. I'm using a fresh install of maya 2016, so not sure if that matters.

Hopefully it can be fixed so I can use this rig, it looks pretty good! Thanks!!

    It also does this with a fresh new empty scene.

    Can you try to delete your prefs and then start with a new scene. The script is definitely working and the error must be because of something else. Are you using the default parameters?

    I deleted the prefs, but still same result. Open new scene, click on quadruped rigger icon, go with all default settings, click down the list of "build x", then click Finish rig. The "building rig" dialog box doesn't go away and I get that line 32 error. Yes, using everything default.

    Just out of curiosity - I just installed maya 2015, and I got the exact same error. Completely fresh and clean preferences and everything. Thanks for your fast response!

    Just a thought - what exactly does the finish rig button do? Is it possible that I just bind the skin with maya's controls and use the rig from there?

    What do you mean by "click down the list of "build x""? No need to re-install Maya. I have never seen a case where re-installing Maya has helped. Most trouble is prefs related or user related. "Finish Rig" actually builds the rig. Before pressing this button you only have a skeleton and that is not a rig. Here's a quick video to show that it works. Standard Maya 2016 with the script installed: https://youtu.be/uXiYim_ASiU Sorry, but there is nothing else I can do from here.

    Hey, thank you again for the quick response. I have to apologize, as it was my fault for not properly watching the how-to video (I don't have a fast enough connection to download the video). I could view that short youtube video though and it works fine. I thought i had to build the rig step by step with the define character tab. :( :( :( Thanks for your time and thanks for the amazing rig!!!!
