When I run "import synStackControllers" I get

# Error: ImportError: file <maya console> line 1: Bad magic number in /swiss/people/thomas/maya/2014-x64/scripts/synStackControllers.pyc #

and then running

synPlaceController.synPlaceControllerUI()

gives me

# Error: NameError: file <maya console> line 1: name 'synPlaceController' is not defined #

    oh and im running maya 2014 sp1 on linux

    This seems to be Linux only as I have just run the script on a windows setup. I will work to see what the problem is.

    Apologies for not answering any of these ever... I am going over my scripts again in maya 2018. I will have a new batch of scripts up soonish.
