This MEL script removes all .'s in your file name. So if your scene file is named myfile.ma and saved in a drive called /Volumes/my.drive/Maya/Scenes/ this will not work.

A file like this named:

/Volumes/my.drive/Maya/Scenes/myfile.ma

would become:

/Volumes/mydrive/Maya/Scenes/myfile01.ma (notice the "mydrive")

which then results in an error saying it can't find this file.
