This script gives you the ability to remove any existing display overrides, make objects non-selectable, make objects non-renderable and delete all display layers in the scene.

The script is designed with rigging in mind, so that the final model's geometry group can be made non-selectable by the animators.

Should work in all versions of Maya from 2009 onwards.
