Great, got it working after a few attempts The biggest mistake i made was not selecting the [Python] tab in the script editor. I was trying to paste & execute the script when it was in the default [Mel] mode. (Maya 2011) Thanks alot

[trevor baylis] actually you will not overwrite anything, because you don't have pyqt by default, so don't be afraid. second, you extract the zip file anywhere on your computer, the zip file contains 5 files -AlignObjects-PySide.py -AlignObjects.py -AlignObjects.ui -align.png -LICENSE.txt the file "AlignObjects-PySide.py" is for maya 2014 and doesn't need the pyqt step at all. the file "AlignObjects.py" if ro maya 2013 and does need the pyqt step "the one with overwrite site-packages folder" after you extract the zip file just open the script file that correspond to your maya version then change the line UIFile="TO THE PATH OF THE FILE "AlignObjects.ui" ", so for example.. if you extracted the zip file in C:\scripts\AlignObjects then the UIFile line will be UIFile="C:\scripts\AlignObjects\AlignObjects.ui" now open maya and open the script editor window and simply open and run the script. that's all.

Thanks focus gfx for making this script available. However, your installation instructions are troublesome. For instance, I already have a folder called site-packages in my local directory C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2012\Python\lib\site-packages\ My 'existing site-packages file' contains two other files - maya and pymel but the 'Pyqt site-packages file' does not the data inside is different. You are suggesting that I overwrite 'existing site-packages file' with the 'Pyqt site-packages file'?! " go to your Pyqt installation folder then COPY the folder names "site-packages" to "MAYA_INSTALLATION_FOLDER/Python\Lib" overwrite existing one if asked. " So what happens to all the data from my 'existing site-packages file' that I will lose?! Do you mean that I should merge the two files? i.e. copy the data from inside the 'Pyqt site-packages file' to the existing file. Additionally, I would like to run this script from an external server so that it can run on different machines. How should I do that? Where do I put your AlignObjects files? Do I just leave them zipped up in my downloads folder?! Once again thanks for taking the time to make your scripts available but please give proper step by step, fool proof instructions that anyone can understand. All the best ;)

Awesome initiative, thank you for such a useful tool! For some weird reason this website doesn't let me add a feature request at the moment, so I'm forced to suggest it here: please please, if possible, complete the script so that it also orients pivots independently from object orientation (like 3ds max's align tool does, when in pivot mode). Thanks for sharing your work so generously : )
