Not sure what the problem is, but pressing play in Maya 2016 cause the whole program to freeze for about 40 seconds when the character is in the scene. After that, it all works fine. I don't know if something can be done about it, but I thougth I would report this bug anyway.
That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard! Sorry, can't help you right there! Actually, having done this rig years ago, I'm surprised it still work on Maya 2016 (which is reknown for being extremely bugged and unreliable by the way)
