if you are having problem with use.. try copy all content file to maya script editor, remove the # symbol from end line and execute. drag the code to shelfbar for quick access button. -

It works great. One aditional feature I would like is I could choose percentage of polygons of original object in proxy. 10% of million polys is still a lot! -

Hard to install (after out it uses pymel) but once up and running this is a great tool! Very useful.
