Playblast Error

Date:03/18/2015
Submitted by: Samuel Tissot-Jobin Samuel Tissot-Jobin
Hello,

First of all thanks and great job !!

I am running into a little problem when creating a playblast, not sure if it's a bug or my problem (that why I filed it in the support)

I get this error when I want to create a playblast:

// Error: file: C:/******/maya/scripts/craSceneTools.mel line 2365: Unable to create a movie file. It may be open by another application.

the thing is, it's not open anywhere that I can see. No instance of the playblast has been open. When I create a playblast with default maya cmd I don't get any errors.

Any ideas ?, I would love to use this feature !!!

Thanks for your time

Sam

Hello Sam, can you tell me a bit more about your working environment? Maya version, Operating System. Does it happen with a particular scene or in every scene you try? Have you re-started Maya and the computer to see if that happens all the time? I'm on windows and it has not happened to me yet. I have just checked this feature and it works ok on Maya 2015 and Windows 7 x64 on my computer. Definitely it could be a bug but it could also be something on your end. Thanks for the feedback.

Ok temoraly fixed it. I probably don't have (Ithought I had) quicktime codec installed, so I just changed the compression type and it work -compression "H.264" - format "movie" TO -compression "MS-CRAM" -format "movie" guess I'll go get quicktime. cheers :)

Obviously sorry about that, Maya 2015 Win 7 64bit It does it for every scene && different projects. I have been playing with the -format flag on line 2365 if I change the -format "qt" to "avi" (I know I can't read the file BUT it creates it fine. applause for the quickness !!

Alright Sam, it should work ok, the script also handles avi files when creating and checking for existing playblasts. Nice to know you got it working. Yeah it looks like it is required to have quicktime installed to playblast to MOV. [...] Playblasting depends upon your system movie libraries to generate the selected compression scheme. Autodesk cannot guarantee the reliability or success of all codecs available to your operating system. For QuickTime®, ensure that you have properly installed the most recent version. Cheers and thanks for the feedback again.
