Painting Skin Weights

Date:12/23/2012
Submitted by: Lauris Maikas Lauris Maikas
Hello, I am a student studying 3D Animation and Games as I am a beginer I was just wondering when should i paint weights? Is it after you set the controllers or before? Because if I try to bind skin before applying controls to the rig your script woudn't recognize any of the joints and says that I should create a new one.

You usually paint weights after the rigging process. You first build your rig. Then go to the outliner and find the sets with the final skinning joints. Select your geometry and the joints and do your smooth binding.
