I got the same thing. I found out that it only happens if you work on the same file for a long time. I can't figure out what the issue is.
On the flip-side, you can easily fix this by creating more instances of a previous control (which creates a clean version of the control).
In addition to the original error, if you try to create any new controls from the ready-made, it screws up the bounding box (the one that prevents the control from moving outside of the area) and ends up being able to be moved anywhere. No constraints added.
